                                                       Meet Pastor Mielke

On May 28, 1962, Pastor David Mielke was born to Ralph and Ruth Mielke in Menominee, MI. On June 8 of that same year, he was reborn as a child of God through the Sacrament of Holy Baptism. He attended grade school at Trinity Lutheran School in Marinette and was confirmed at Christ Lutheran Church in Menominee. After graduation from Fox Valley Lutheran High School in Appleton, he attended Northwestern College at Watertown for 2 1⁄2 years before deciding to pursue a different course. He received his associate degree from UW-Marinette and his bachelor’s degree in nursing from UW-Oshkosh. During this time, he also served as a volunteer EMT on Emergency Rescue Squad, Inc. of Marinette.

Pastor Mielke worked in Green Bay as a RN for several years before returning to UW-Oshkosh to receive his master’s degree in nursing. For over a decade, he worked as a nurse practitioner mostly in urgent and emergency care settings. The desire to serve in public ministry never disappeared, and he enrolled at Martin Luther College, New Ulm, MN where he completed the seminary certification program in 1999. Pastor Mielke then attended Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary, Mequon, WI, graduating with a Master of Divinity degree in 2003. His vicar year was spent at Woodlawn Lutheran Church in West Allis; he also served as a senior assistant at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Grafton. On May 20, 2003, Pastor Mielke received a divine call through the synodical assignment committee to Zion, Mount Pleasant, MI. After serving Zion for nearly six years, he accepted the divine call to Christ, Oakley, MI, where he served until accepting the divine call to Grace.

While working in the emergency department at St. Mary’s hospital in Green Bay, he met another nurse named Cheryl and as they say, the rest is history. They were married in 1990 at St. Mark Lutheran Church, Green Bay. Cheryl worked as a RN in various settings before changing careers herself. For the past decade, she has worked for PNC Bank; she currently works for PNC as a remote customer service representative.

The Mielkes have been blessed with a son, Micah. A 2022 graduate of Michigan Lutheran Seminary in Saginaw, MI, Micah plans to remain in Michigan to work at the Saginaw County Sheriff’s Department and complete his degree in criminal justice/law enforcement at Delta College, Saginaw.
Pastor Mielke’s mother, Ruth, continues to reside in Menominee; Cheryl’s parents, Lloyd and Ruth Gass reside in Two Rivers.

The Mielkes look forward to meeting the members of Grace and being part of the Crivitz community!
